Mauritius is 2000 kilometers to the south east of Africa and lies east to Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.The Island has an area of 1865 square kilometers with 330 kilometers of coastline inland features, subtropical forests, rivers, streams and waterfalls and not to mention the turquoise sea, miles of sandy beaches lined with coconut and palm trees.

Climate
Minimum temperature on the coast varies from 33 degrees centigrade to 24 degrees centigrade in the summer. Along the coastal areas, the temperatures are generally 3 to 5 degrees higher. The northern and western regions are warmer.

Getting There
Regular flights by Air Mauritius, British Airways and The Royal Emirates from Heathrow and Gatwick Airports.Flying time is 12 hours on non-stop flights.

International Airport
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport, also known as Plaisance (code MRU) is 70 kms from Foxhill Villas - about an hour's drive. Facilities include duty free shops, both on arrival and departure, bars, banks and post office. Driving is on the left, please!

Currency
The monetary unit is the Mauritius Rupees, which is divided into cents. Exchange rates vary, other than the high street banks, there are a number of money changing facilities on the coastal towns and the capital city in Port Louis.

Time
Mauritius is 4 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and 3 hours ahead of mid European time.

Getting Married in Mauritius.

The “Civil Statute Act”states that marriage of non-residents can take place the day following publication of marriage banns.
However, the couple must obtain a certificate issued by the Prime Minister’s office and given to the registrar of Civil Status officer stating that they are not Mauritian citizens or Mauritian residents. This certificate can be obtained by sending a request to:
